Yup,

but the way I looked at it, back in Nov 13 they could give me a full alloy and tyre for free, or charge me close to £700 (as quoted in Nov13) and wait for a space saver (space saver & underfloor mouldings and jack etc)....

also, the 19" tyre was hard to get in stock that day or next, and would cost over £300, I would rather get my car towed home or ask a friend or the wife to bring out the full from my garage than be held hostage by the well known tyre fitters...

I took out tyre insurance online, but have discovered its a waste of time unless you can wait a few days or more to get it fixed/replaced...hence again the need for a full spare...

Things have obviously changed 18 months on, premium 19" tyres are going for £150+ now rather than £300+

Why cant we get the car companies to be sensible about spares....especially when using their gunk will destroy a perfectly repairable tyre most times....

You do need to make sure that the spare is properly secured, otherwise if you have a crash it could exit through the windscreen taking your head with it!

Can you show me where premiums at this price are available, and which would be recommended? When i get my 6 i will be travelling around 30-35,000 per year so need to make a good choice.

Dazdot,

not sure if I am allowed to mention the site....if I am in the wrong here sorry....

but if you internet search the words "tyre" and "shopper" together....I am sure you can work it out.....currently fitted by a national chain, "all in prices" just over £150 (19") and £100 (17") per tyre fitted for the Bridgestone T001's,
conti and dunlops also available....I just went for the tyres fitted as oem...

Blackcircles do Bridgestone 225/45/19/w for £164 or cheap ones for £122, though just now, looking, Tyreshopper do seem at the moment to be cheaper(Bridgestone), but not for my "tiny"tyres!
Previous cars all, Honda Accord(s) old(1982) W,A,B,C,D,F,G,H,M and T plates, also have a Fiat 500.

My brother put the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT on his car.
He seems to be getting more miles out of his tyres than me on the Bridgestones, but they seem a little less comfortable bump wise in the town on the 45 rim, and the bridgestones seem better in the dry, Dunlops better in the wet.

you can get 4 of them from tyreleader.co.uk for £550 delivered just now, add on £50-80 for fitting at your local garage....

If money was no object, i would have got the Continental sport contacts....but high miles per year would kill my bank balance i think (many reports of 10k wear out and from previous experience of Continental Sport contacts)

Do diesel drivers get less life from their tyres?

Perhaps some members could declare their tyre wear rates....get an idea ?

Except for the extra weight in the derv block, cant see why their would be much of a difference...

for the last 15 years I have tended to average low 20k's on fronts, 30k on backs when not rotated....

the garage must have rotated the current cars tyres at the first service, cant explain why the rear and front will need replacing at the same time on the mazda otherwise...

Just wondered if the extra torque put more strain on the tyres shortening the life compared with the less instant pulling power from a petrol.
