At present my car isn't showing any of the symptoms, which is why I wondered about about fitting new camshafts before problems arose, but as damtom85 said the strip down would almost certainly reveal further issues, or potential issues that the dealer would want to address. The poor fuel consumption has always been the case, compared to my previous 6 diesel, so maybe I should just cruise at <65mph :-(. The car has full main dealer history.

Hi all, unfortunately I am in the same boat with you guys.

(viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6620)

My Vin number JMZG ...124382

is not in the range, however the car is now dead, the dealer told me its the small turbo of the 2 that has gone, they quoted me £1600 for the turbo (not sure if it includes labour) but not able to confirm how that has happened. reading this thread, I am not sure if its from the camshaft? and also what condition the big turbo is in.

I am now without a car for my partner and myself for work, and also do not have the funds for the repair, I have no idea where to turn. the dealer mentioned he will try and contact Mazda for assistance, but I am not holding my breath.

is there an exact figure of how many cars where taken in for repairs that we can find? any advise on what to do?, the car is 3years 8 months old and I have no warranty on this.

Yip I think your car is in the range too, you mention a FSH I take it this is all Main Dealer or backed up with VAT invoices for all parts and labour? if so get stuck in to Mazda and possibly have a chat with Trading Standards on the information contained here, should they prove unhelpful, as this is well documented and very well known by Mazda, and T/S will be able to keep you right on your legal's.

Ah. I must have got the numbers wrong. I am waiting to hear back from the dealer still. Do I accept a contribution? Or do I fight to the end. I am not sure what is fair with me and mazda. Fsh is with mazda and all logged electronically

Fight to the end - both the dealership and Mazda were aware that you had shoddy camshafts and they were dancing with the devil by not recalling all effected cars. In effect they were gambling with lives, as any one of those cars, if not rectified, could seize up whilst travelling at high speed.

No matter then that you are out of warranty. Mark my words, you are not alone, as there are thousands of cars that will fail this year and after. There needs to be a test case brought against them, which is something Mazda won't allow to happen and will therefore compensate all those that are brave enough to bluff it out. BE BRAVE

As NewMazdaOwner says, brave and calm wins the day here, as you can see from earlier posts there are many in you situation who have done this and successfully got their repairs done up to 100% as they car wriggle on a case by case basis depending on history etc etc.

Truly the best of luck to you I am keen to see how you get on.

IMHO ALL these cars produced with the faulty camshafts should have been recalled and sorted and not wait for the damage to occur Mazda know when the cut off point is by the VIN NUMBER you only have to contact a main dealer and they can check straight away from the Mazda database as to weather the car is clear or not or has been modified and sorted that would save all this grief and Mazda would be much better thought of by it's present customers and pending customers and not scaring them away   :o
cheers steve

Agreed this is a disaster for Mazda reputation as owners are unaware that they might be facing a problem so don't know to ask,,,,,,,,,,,,, UNLESS,,,,,,, they are on a website like this, and once again what better reason for being than if we can save one owner the hassle!!!!
