I'm the one who had a new camshaft & turbo fitted then 6 days later the engine sized.
I finally got the car back at the start of April with a complete new engine, but I had to make a hefty contribution to get the new engine fitted. Since then I have been working quietly in the background to gather evidence against Mazda UK and today I hit the jackpot.
Back in February I sent a data access request to Mazda UK asking for full details of all warranty work carried out on my car since new and they responded with what they claimed was a complete list. Today, through an alternative source, I received a complete print out of all warranty work carried out on my car since new and it clearly shows that the information supplied by Mazda UK was incomplete and any references to AE027A had been removed. Basically they knew about the problem on my car whilst it was still in warranty, replaced the vacuum pump to mask the issue, then removed the vacuum pump replacement from my data access request so that I couldn't prove it had been done. A clear breach of the law.
I have now written to Mazda UK to ask them to review the information they sent me in February and they can now either send me the same information, thereby breaking the law again, or provide me with complete information which proves they broke the law in the first place. One way or another, I am not finished with Mazda UK yet and will soon elevate this to Mazda corporate headquarters in Japan as well as local and national media if I can.
Many thanks for this information and this is much, much more than a civil Small Claims Court action or Trading Standards violation as suggested in an earlier post. If you are able to prove it, this is pure and simple fraud and as such Mazda, or someone or group within Mazda UK, are guilty of criminal acts.
In the first instance, I suggest that you send a letter to one or more of the UK national newspapers (News Desks, not motoring sections) and copy in the Mazda UK managing director, Jeremy Thomson
jthomson@mazdaeur.com and Laura Brailey, the new Head of UK Retail Operations, outlining all the facts regarding the cars problems and how Mazda have dealt with them. You may also like to add that this forum has been calling for Mazda to put their hands up about the major problem surrounding the batch of properly hardened camshafts that they fitted to a huge amount of 2.2D engines in late 2013 and early 2014 and have been hiding the fact ever since.
Even if Mazda do come clean and repay you for your outlay, please do not sign a non disclosure document which gags you from telling others.
Good luck
