Gen 3 owners please read! Camshaft Issue (Diesel)

Yeah morning starts problems , that's what guy posted on the other forum. Dealer keeps his over month already. He also posted that there is another guy with same problem at the same dealer

Update .....

Hi guys another four engines damaged on other forum.

Apparently Mazda knows where is the problem and what causing it . From leak from dealer faulty part is a camshaft. It is wearing off and and small bits of metal goes in to the oil which cause damage to turbos and other equipment.

Affected VIN numbers up to
G*****.....141***

VIN numbers above have different camshaft.

Things to look for:

- loss of power

- White smoke from exhaust

- oil spitting out from exhaust

- problem with starting engine or with start/stop system

- metallic sound coming from engine

- increase in vibration from engine.


Mazda knows about problem but they won't do any recall.

I have information that the problem can affect all SKYACTIV-D engines produced up to 17. September 2013.

Shr3k So your info is even better. Anything else you want add ? Is Mazda going to do som recalls. My VIN is 138*** and I have rough start on cold days. I can notice sometimes loss of power when I want to do sudden acceleration.

Hmm, recalls, difficult to say. They probably just calculate whether it will be worthwhile to change exhaust cam, rockers and vacuum brake booster pump (and possible the turbos) on some vehicles up to 3 year/100000 km (and equivalent in miles in the UK) with these problems or change exhaust cam on all produced vehicles with SH engines. Rate of vacuum brake booster pump's clogging with iron particles coming from worn camshaft is easy to diagnose with MMDS logger as PCM>BBP value at idle RPM. Vacuum must be under 35 kPa.

Knowing Mazda company, if it's not a threat to life (airbags, brakes, fire hazard), they'll sweep it under the carpet and let the customer to pay repair costs after warranty.

Interesting would be statistics, how does this exhaust cam worn affect the number of completed start-stop cycles.

Why are there ALWAYS issues with Mazda 6 diesels? I find this thread amazing after all the problems with gen 1 diesels packing up. Just beggars belief. What ever happened to the old school ultra reliable Mazdas that used to top the reliability tables?!

Things like that makes me think of selling my Mazda , especially when my VIN is in the defect range.

I will part exchange it for something else I think .

Hi,

Regarding said VIN numbers - mine is 12 digits long with last 6 digits in the range 175,000 to 180,000, starts with characters of JMZGJ - Engine number starts SH followed by 8 digits in the range 30,000,000 to 31,000,000. Please clarify what affected VIN's are in the range.

Also, my car has done less that 2,000 miles from new and when I excellerate hard I get huge amounts of white smoke from exhaust, is this normal as I have never had a car with a turbo before.
