I've just put a deposit down on a used 63 plate 2.2 D Sport - registered Sept 13

VIN is 139*** which is outside the published recall range but I've seen other posts within this thread saying this VIN is affected.

Is there any official documentation saying this is an affect VIN and regardless, is this is potentially afflicted vehicle?

Thanks for the quick response. Is there a TSB I can reference and/or what should I ask of the dealer before completing purchase? Or is it bad enough that I should just walk away?

My honest opinion - walk away. I've had repairs done and believe me car wasn't the same, lack of power, I did dyno test over 20bhp and almost 100 torque less. I went back to Mazda dealer and they wouldn't do anything about it. in the end I sold it.

Thanks for the advice. Just to clarify, your VIN prefix was JMZGJ... - correct? I.e. affected VINs were up JMZGJ...21 148781?

Damtom is quite correct - the car you have put a deposit on is definately within the known VIN range that were fitted with exhaust camshafts that had not been hardened properly. Club members over the last 2-years have reported major engine problems with miliage as low as 20,000 up to 60,000. At the moment, it would seem that there is a glut of cars for sale that are within the known (by all those connected with Mazda) VIN range which are now out of the original 3-year warranty. On the face of it they appear to be a bargain, when compared to Parkers Guide for instance, which are nothing of the kind and are prone to failure at some time in the future.

For peace of mind, potential Mazda buyers should look to only buy a car that is outside of the known VIN range and even stear clear of those that had warranty work of replaced camshafts, Turbos or vacuum pumps. Vehicles built with pucker hardened camshafts - i.e. outside of the known VIN range, are in the main very good cars indeed.

Hi
I say again why take the risk as there are loads of March onwards 14 plates out there and you would be virtually risk free but you could still have it checked against the Mazda data base and you would know it wasn't a damage repair but it's up to you as it's your money.
