Just checked my local backstreet garage and they said they would charge £90 for doing that - how much does it cost you at a Mazda dealership Steve?

It's probably wise to go to a pucka Mazda dealer, as I understand that only special engine oil is advised. How much of that is Mazda hype I have no idea, but I have read that on no account should synthetic oil be used, as it can damage the seals. Apparently, according to Mazda, that was one of the contributing factors surrounding the camshaft/turbo/vacuum pump fiasco, as some dealers - i.e. those that are multi manufacturer - have just synthetic engine oil, from a central tank, which they use on all cars they service. Another reason to go to one of the Mazda only dealerships! My local dealership is primarilly Vauxhall and I know for certain that Vauxhall RECOMMEND synthetic oil.

While it isn't absolutely essential to go to a Mazda dealer it is definitely essential to stick to the very specific low ash oil formulation which is specified in the handbook otherwise, as said above, all sorts of problems can (and have been) the result.

Comments on here suggest that the Mazda oil is not unduly expensive compared with alternative manufacturers so better safe than sorry. A few pounds is nothing compared with the cost of an engine rebuild.

Hi had mine done today unfortunatley the service manager was away and i was informed by the relief manager that she had to stick to the price £120 as the price of the Mazda oil had gone up :( :naughty: :shifty: :violin: . But they would do a complete written safety check YES i know big deal but it is everything including brakes in black and white. Hopefully when i have the first service i will pick a time when the proper service manager is there and get a wedge off ;) ;) Anyway even at that price it won't stop me doing the intermeddiate oil change with diesels as it's still cheaper than a wrecked engine :D :D Even with a petrol i would still do an early change as i think 10000 is enough of a hammering for the oil. When and if it ever comes to electric cars GOD KNOWS WHAT YOU DO !

Safety check is always worth having. Glad you got it done OK with the correct oil.

Plug it in and pay twice the amount for the electricity. How the hell we are going to produce enough electricty on the national grid? I bet the next thing will be that cars will have a mini nucleur reactor in the boot. Why oh why doesn't some bright spark re-erect the idea of extracting hydrogen out of water, I will never understand. A car, not a heavy vehicle, will run perfectly well on hydrogen and with no nasty gases produced.

First post . Just purchased a 2013 tourer and then I came across this problem . Typical

Everything seems fine car has a complete service history from mazda since new there is 84k on it now . Am I in the clear at that mileage or is it still an issue

Thanks

Not nescercerily one that hadn't been modified didn't manifest it self until 120000. then camshaft turbo vacume pump all damaged plus other parts BIG damage Big Bill. Why this was never treated as a recall i will never know because the damage to engine and reputation is HUGE. Still check that Vin number at Mazda main dealer on the Mazda data base if it falls in the danger zone notify Mazda Customer Services make them aware and you want to know if the camshafts have been replaced the full service history will put you in good position but it won't stop the cams failing as it's a hardening issue which wasn't sorted until late March 2014. And even if it is sorted change oil and filter evrey 6000/7000 miles or 6 months if you don't do the miles that should stop any DPF problems no matter what sort of journeys you do. There are a lot of diesel owners doing that now. And don't use the cheap diesel fuel and all should be ok. Yes it costs a bit more to do all that but it's cheaper than a wrecked engine. GOOD LUCK
