Sorry to revive the ranting and raving from last night but I've just read through.

To clear things up I made this topic because it was an issue that people need to be aware of as is wasn't public knowledge. This would allow owners to get it checked out if they had any problems. I didn't make this thread as I believe it's a threat to life.

Now Mazda have made it a recall, that's great. They will repair and replace any effected camshafts and turbos. Their repair procedure is very in depth and there should be no remains of metal when the car is given back to the customer.

Newmazdaowner - everyone is entitled to their opinions and Mar.eng was simply talking about the DPF in relation to the wear of the camshaft. We don't police the forum to a high degree as telling people where to post what as I personally find that very annoying.

Please less of the heated atmosphere and continue to be the friendly forum that we are :)

Adding to Ross comment.

The recall that newmazdaowner quoted from GOV website is not for camshaft issue. When I first saw this recall I went to dealer and showed him note about this. They connected diagnostic equipment and after 10 minutes of work mechanic came and said software was updated long time ago and everything is fine. But then two months later I had engine rebuild because of worn camshaft.

This proves that this recall is not related to camshaft issue.

No, you should be fine.

Hi,
Are you sure that your VIN starts JMZGY as all that I have read seems to indicate that the 3rd gen M6's are all JMZGJ

The following is useful info

The first 3 Alpha Letters JMZ is the World Manufacturer i.e. Mazda - Identifier "JM"..and the Z, is the country or region of destination - Z =Europe

Next two letters relate to the model - GJ meaning Mazda 6

Next two Numbers relate to "Body Code" - 69 is Tourer (not sure what others are)

Next the 1,2,3 or N relate to Engine Type ( 2 is the High Power 175bhp Diesel Engine)

Next number is 'Minor Change Code' , some markets also have a number there for Transmission Type...5 speed or 6 speed. (8 being 6-speed auto)

Next Number is either Model Year, or in some countries that don't use it

Next Number relates to the plant where the car was made, 0, means Hiroshima Plant, 1 means Hofu Plant

Last...the Last 6 numbers are the cars actual Serial Number.

Ross - I take your point, but please be consistent as some of your moderators have scolded me and others for being off topic = are you now saying that no matter where peoples minds wander is ok on any thread?

Great to hear that Mazda have now issued a recall by the way - does that mean that any owner of a vehicle within the VIN range can get their car checked out, even if it isn;t seemingly having engine trouble?

Rather worrying though poor camshaft metalurgy, or is it during the DPF regen that extra fuel is contaminating the oil and causing white metal in the bearings to fail ( a very common problem with diesel engines is fuel contamination of the lube oil and this regen does not help the cause).
If you loose the thin layer of white metal you are onto steel shells which will wear camshafts as the lubrication at the top end plus the fuel contamination will add to the problem.
So did Mazda run the engine underload for a long time with the oil level approaching the X mark. You should not need the X mark on a correctly designed engine.

I actually believe that's on topic as it's related to the camshaft issue. If he was just talking about DPF yes that would be off topic

Thank You Ross.
When you have had 40 years of experience with various types of diesel engines and their many problems you can relate it to car diesels.
I have also driven two diesel cars for the past 16 years and never had these types of problems D's Mazda 6 is experiencing.
My Vin is 157*** Build start date 30/10/13 yet bought new 9/2014. So I may have these problems eventually.
Experience is measured by the trail of debris left behind.

My bad, it's a typo error on my part, apologies for that. It is indeed JMZGJ

Dont think it needs that long mar.eng. I am an ex marine engineer (B.P. motor and steam) with 'only' 20 years experience and I reckon I know my way around any diesel engine. With 40 years under your belt I bow to your , no doubt, vast knowledge.

Hi guys.

My vin ends 142***. Do you happen to know if this falls into the range with the known issue?

Many thanks
