If I were you I would keep all the paperwork of Mazda saying it’s all ok plus also make Mazda customer service aware that your vin falls in the suspect numbers and in case of failure that your service record is up to date plus check oil yourself at least every 1000 miles and intermediate oil and filter change as I do or every 6 months if you don’t do the miles and if the oil level creeps up which it shouldn’t changing it that frequent but if it does oil change at that point but if its caused by strainer blockage that could be the cam failing ? By the way when Mazda refill after oil change they only fill to within an 1/8 inch below the full mark as per Mazda Japan instructions. Plus I would extend your warranty as repairs and parts are expensive especially if that cam is faulty hope this helps.

Hi Steve, I’m already out of warranty, September 2016, Mazda wouldn’t let me take out an extended one now, would they?

Worth a chat to customer services ref cover on the camshaft situation and if they would reinstate extended warranty at what cost and how much a month even if it was only on the engine or engine and transmission if you don’t ask you don’t get
Cheers Steve
Ps if that fails you could look at outside company warranty be careful though they aren’t all the same.

While I was under there, I had a quick look through the oil filler in the cam cover and can’t really see much without fashioning some sort of wire support to allow the camera to look back upon itself, if that makes sense.

I would be very carefull when sticking anything down the dipstick hole, as I believe it doesn't go down a tube as they used to but through the engine and could easily become caught on some gubbins on its way.

This was learnt when they were attempting to carry out the exh gas emissions test and had to lower a wire pyrometer down for oil temp. It appears they have lost the odd one thats got wrapped round something ( and they have probably said nothing, as it would result in an engine dismantling to remove on their tab).

Though always take anything a mechanic says with a pinch of salt unless it can be proven before your eyes or on documentation.

Is that a typo "jannier" cannot say that I have found that word in any dictionary, thesaurus or internet dictionary.

Jannock - Straightforward, genuine, thorough, to be trusted.

Is this post referring to my posts trying to help owners of early Gen 3s that haven’t gone through the forums information?
As a member of this forum I am just trying to help and yes I do realise sometimes I am repeating my self.
